I am still alive and well in Peru!

I've been bad about posting stories. If any of you were dying to hear crazy tales I apologize. I've been writing, just not posting. The internet here isn't terribly reliable and the travel blog has taken a backseat to other things. I hope in the next couple weeks to write more and share some of it with all of you. I am having an amazing time, learning a lot about tropical ecology, birds, and mostly myself. I have definitely run into some challenges while I've been here, and I have pushed my limits physically, mentally, and emotionally. This has been the experience of a lifetime, I think mostly because of those challenges. I have no regrets. Please enjoy some of the pictures that I've posted on facebook. I look forward to seeing all of you when I get back!

In theory, even if you do not use facebook you can go to this link and see my photos. I'm too interwebs-illiterate to figure out the other photo sharing sites. I will try to upload a couple videos on youtube and post them here. The world may implode if I succeed. Stories to come later. Need to go get food. Internet is very slow here and it's taken me all morning to put together the album.

Oh, yeah. I'm back in Iquitos for a couple days! I actually showered for the first time in 2.5 weeks yesterday and it was awesome. Picking up my clean laundry today at 3pm. Last night at dinner I ordered "1/4 de pollo" and a Cusquena beer at Chez Maggy. They brought me a full quarter of a chicken and fries. Just what I needed! In the field I am on carbohydrate overload. Protein is a wonderful, wonderful thing.

Bird nerds rule.

Last night I drank beer over field guides with fellow bird nerds in an open air bar on the Amazon. Then we took two motocars to get pizza with palm hearts at Pizza Hot in Iquitos. The evening ended with motocar races back to the hotel, though we had absolutely no control over who won.

This morning I went birding along the Amazon with a couple other people from my crew and a little kid that knew ALL the birds. He told me that the terns were hunting for fish (in spanish, of course). Cool.
